Felony Cases
(Most common felonies listed here but all felonies are handled.)
OWI's - DUI's (Operating While Under the Influence)
Years ago, citizens regularly drove after consuming alcohol. With the large number of deaths attributed to drunk-driving, society had to clamp down on the practice. Therefore, the number of people charged with the crime has dramatically increased. Moreover, the penalties have become very strict. Most OWI's entail mandatory Jail/Huber time and often prison. In Wisconsin, fourth offenses (and on up) are felonies and also OWI's causing injury can be felonies.
Robberies and Burglaries
Theft when done by force is often charged as a Robbery. Entering a building with the intent to steal can be charged as a burglary. These are serious crimes insofar as they can land people in prison and effect future livelihoods.
Sexual Assaults
One of the most serious felony categories throughout Wisconsin are Sexual Assaults. These charges can be charged in a variety of ways depending the facts. In Wisconsin, we have 1st degree to 4th degree (noting that 4th degree is considered a misdemeanor). Simply stated, sexual assault is charged when one individual violates another person in sexual way. The penalties can be extremely severe along with sexual registry obligations.
Drug Dealing (Delivery of Controlled Substances)
Years ago, citizens regularly drove after consuming alcohol. With the large number of deaths attributed to drunk-driving, society had to clamp down on the practice. Therefore, the number of people charged with the crime has dramatically increased. Moreover, the penalties have become very strict. Most OWI's entail mandatory Jail/Huber time and often prison.
Child Neglect
A serious charge is child neglect. Often, children aren't even physically harmed to be charge with this crime. The stigma of being charged with this felony is often one of the most anxiety-provoking charges for mothers and fathers because they feel that society will judge them with this on their record.
Fleeing an Officer
Sometimes being in a rush can cause some collateral problems and even get you a free stay at a nearby correctional facility. About two decades ago, the crime of fleeing an officer was a misdemeanor, but because of the inherent danger posed to the public by fleeing an officer, the Wisconsin State Legislature bumped fleeing an officer from a misdemeanor to a felony.
Possession of Illegal Images of Children
Known as Possession of C.P., this felony is one of the more serious charges because it carries a three years minimum mandatory prison sentence and sexual registry obligations.
